Transportation to Airport from Mogadishu City Center

Aden Adde Intl. Airport

It is very easy to reach the Aden Adde International Airport, which is named after the first president of Somalia, from the city center of Mogadishu. There are not many alternatives you can use to reach the airport, which is only a few kilometers away from the center of Mogadishu. Moreover, it is not recommended for safety reasons to use a significant portion of the vehicles that serve the city.

Taxi in the city is the best alternative for reaching the airport both from the center of Mogadishu and for travelling within the city. But before you board, you should be sure that it is a licensed vehicle, and you should bargain with the driver before the journey starts. Otherwise, the amount you will pay for short distances may be much higher than you anticipated.

Renting a car is also preferred by tourists coming to the city. If you have an international driver's license, you can easily rent a car in the city. However, it is difficult to say that this option is also completely secure. It is recommended that you have a local guide when you are traveling around the city and its surroundings. The currency used in the country also applies to all public transport vehicles and taxis. If you do not have a shilling, you can get it from the bank branches in the city center, from foreign exchange offices or from the airport.

It is possible to see the buses as a means of public transportation in the city. However, these means are not recommended especially for foreign tourists. The reason is safety. Although these means are used by locals, they may not be safe enough for tourists. In Mogadishu you also have a chance to travel with private vehicles. If you would like to evaluate this option for transportation, you can also take advantage of the parking areas at the airport for short and long waiting times.

Taxi

Taxis in the city are frequently used for transportation by both tourists and local people. You can easily get taxis to get to the airport especially from the city center. Before taking a taxi in Mogadishu, be sure to check whether it is a licensed taxi or not, and agree with the driver about the price before you start the journey. Thus, you will be able to take down your chances of encountering any unexpected surprises at the end of your journey. Please keep in mind that it may be more advantageous to make your payment with shilling, the currency of the country.

Car Rental

In Mogadishu, renting a car is an alternative to taxis for the tourists. However, if you are considering renting a car in the city, make sure that you have booked in advance and that you have someone with you from the local community. In this way you can travel more safely and you do not have to pay extra for the car.

You can reach the Aden Adde International Airport, which connects Mogadishu with the world, in a short period of time by following the airport signs from the city center with the car you rent from the city center. If you want to deliver the car at the airport, you should make sure that there is a branch of the company you rent a car from at the airport by getting information from the rental company beforehand.

Private Vehicle

With special vehicles in Mogadishu, you can easily exceed the distance from the city to the airport. Traveling with a private vehicle will be much faster than with other vehicle alternatives. For this reason, it can be safely said that your best option is a special vehicle if you have to hurry to catch your flight. If you are going to use the car, make sure that you have your driver's license with international validity with you.

You can reach the terminal in a short time with your private vehicle thanks to the parking area with suitable pause areas for both short and long waiting times at the airport. The airport signs that you will follow after leaving the city center will bring you here. If you do not trust yourself in navigating, or if it is your first visit, you can also obtain a navigation device.

Bus

It is possible to travel to many parts of the city with buses passing from almost everywhere in the city center. But there is more to be careful in this regard, because buses in the city are not a very safe means of public transport. This is why tourists who come to the city for the first time should definitely travel with a local guide and not use public transport. However, if you are still using these means, try not to take too much money or valuables with you. You can make a much safer journey by keeping this in mind.

Airport Information
