About Katowice

Katowice is the most important industrial city in Poland. It is situated on the banks of Rawa River in the south of the country. It is located in the middle of the Upper Slesia Industrial Region, which is called as the "Industrial Metropolis" of Poland with 14 cities and over 3 million population. Katowice, which has the wealthiest coal mines in the country, is literally a heavy industry and trade center.

Katowice, whose establishment dates back to 1598, looks like a village surrounded by dense forests. With the discovery and operation of the coal mines in 1770, the city grew and developed rapidly. Katowice where iron-steel and cast iron production have been made for many years had become an important railway production center during the World War I.

Katowice, which hosts many factories and production facilities today, also has few historical artifacts as well as the spectacular structures of modern architecture. Although it is not considered as a tourist city, the city is swarmed by foreign visitors thanks to its economic power and cultural diversity. The most attention-grabbing architectural work in Katowice, which hosts several different festivals throughout the year, is Spodek, a flying saucer-shaped indoor sports hall.

In addition, the Silesian Museum and Theater, the city's historical center Nikiszowiec, the King Jesus Cathedral and the Slesia Parliament Building are attractive sightseeing spots in the city. Cold and temperate climate is effective in the city, which receives a large amount of rainfall all year-round. Katowice International Airport is located 30 kilometers north from the city center.

Transportation to Katowice City Center from Airport

Katowice Wojciech Korfanty Airport

The reason for the transportation of Katowice mainly by trams and trains is that it has one of the longest and oldest rail systems in the world that reaches all the regions. Buses and taxis are also important elements for transportation in the city.

Pyrzowice Airport keeps its doors open to passengers open all day with international and domestic flights. Buses to the city center are the most economical option. Taxis and rental cars are two other alternatives. However, these alternatives are less preferred because they are expensive, despite the comfort and speed they offer.

Taxi

The taxi company that serves at Pyrzowice Airport is very innovative and serves 24 hours a day to provide all comfort for passengers. You can pay your fare at the airport by credit card, bank card or foreign currency. All taxi drivers have to help you with your luggage when you are getting on and off. Since all taxi drivers have a long training, they know both English and are very kind and understanding.

Bus

Five different bus companies (PKM Katowice, KZK GOP, Matuzesk, Pyrzowice Express, Tiger Express) operate at Pyrzowice Airport. Buses operate between 06:00 and 01:15. Baggage losses are frequent because the airport is very busy with passengers. In order to prevent this, you should definitely take baggage tags when getting on the buses.

Car Rental

There are many car rental companies for those who want to travel by private car to Katowice city center. Car rental companies listed on the C terminal are Jolcar, Silvercar, Incar and Budget.
