About Nevada

It is a small city located in the Vernon Region in Missouri, United States. In the first years of its founding, it was called "Fairview" and "Hog Eye" and later it was named "Nevada" and in 2006 it was included in the Vernon Region with a decision of the US Congress. Founded in 1955 by Colonel D.C. Hunter, the city was the scene of fierce fighting during the American Civil War, which began in 1860. The bloody guerrilla wars called 'Bushwhacking' especially have become intense in the city center and its neighborhoods. Nevada, which was completely destroyed at the time due to intense combat between the soldiers and the southern guerrillas, began to be rebuilt in 1868.

The city is located in the junction point of Missouri, Kansas, and Texas railways. It is one of the most important centers of agriculture and industry in the region. There are iron, zinc, grain and timber factories in the city. With its abundant natural protection, park and camping areas, the city is an important center for nature and camping tourism. One of the most remarkable organizations in Nevada is the establishment of Cottey College, founded in 1884. It was created and supported by the POE Fellowship, which is a women's organization. The mission of Cottey College is to help women to specialize in education, arts and science. The Bushwhacker Museum, which sheds light on the city and the region's civil war years, the Bushwhacker Jail (prison), an 1800-year-old building, and camping, parks and natural conservation areas around the city are some of the city's most interesting sightseeing spots.
