Al Bayda city, one of the 21 cities of Yemen, is located in the central western part of the country. According to the 2004 census, there is a population of about 577,000 people in the city.

Al Bayda city, located to the south-east of Yemen's capital Sanaa, is currently caught up in Yemen's civil war. Yemen, which is called "Happy Arabia" and has a population of 26 million, has natural resources such as oil, fish, rock salt, marble, coal, gold, lead, nickel and copper. With the majority of the Yemen population coming from the Arabs, the indigenous people are called Yemenis. A minority section is made up of work migrants from Southwest Asia and Africa.  The religion of hte people is 99% Muslim, 1% is Jews, Hindus, Bahias and Christians. According to 2011 data, the estimated literacy rate is known as 65%. In Yemen, whose economy is based on agriculture and livestock, cereals, cotton, dates, bananas, millet, coffee, fruits and vegetables are at the forefront of agricultural products. 65 thousand tons of salt are produced annually in the north of Yemen, while oil and natural gas are being exported to the south.
