About Arraias
Located in the Brazilian state of Tocantins, Arraias is the state’s highest and North Brazil’s second highest city at 722,40 meters. With a population of about 11 thousand people Arraias was born during the Golden Age of Brazil’s municipal administration. The city’s demand for precious metals increased, especially for gold and silver during the colonial period, strengthening its economy. In addition, the city features Portuguese colonial style architecture and historic buildings. Among must-see places are the Furnas Cave and Chapada dos Negros ruins. By renting a car suitable to your budget, you can reach Arraias by driving north on highway 10 and you will reach Arraias in about 5 hours. Another alternative is to travel on highway 20. However, this road extends your journey time by almost 2 hours.
Bus
If you prefer a lower transportation cost alternative, you can travel to Arraias by bus using the Real Expresso company. The journey takes approximately 8 hours. This bus line runs twice a day and the ticket price is 77 R$.
