About Bade
Bade is located on the island of Papua in the east of the South Asian country Indonesia, consisting of five main islands and hundreds of small islands. It is established in a forest and marsh land, by the river resulting from the tides of the Arafura Sea. Bade is in Papua Island, which is also known as Irian Jaya, close to the Papua New Guinea border; a fact that makes transportation difficult. While there are usually villages and towns in Bade and the surrounding area where there are frequent, uninhabited forests, there are some large cities within a few hundred kilometers distance. The closest major city to Bade is the southern coastal town of Merauke.
Apart from Merauke, one of the most important port cities of the island, Jayapura, the biggest and most important city in the north, is also several hundred kilometers away from Bade. Both cities were among the most important port cities in the country of the Netherlands New Guinea when the island was under Dutch rule. Access to the Bade is via the nearby Merauke, Jayapura and Wamena cities, while transportation via the river is also possible. It is dangerous to reach Bade, which is also reached by forest roads, during heavy rainfall and tide periods since these roads might be damaged.
