Balti is the second largest city in Moldova, located in the northwest of the country. The city’s name means ‘swamp’ when directly translated. Balti is one of the region’s most important industry, trade and tourism centers with many historic structures and squares to see. At the same time there are many large vineyards in the area, so wine production in Balti is very important. You can fly to Moldova’s capital, Chisinau, from which reaching Balti is quite easy. The city is located in the inner part of the country and has a continental climate; winters are particularly cold and snowy. The best time to visit Balti is during the spring and summer. One of the best things to do in the city is go shopping. You can find fresh fruits and vegetables and souvenirs at the local markets set up in the city center.
