About Berane
Located in northeast Montenegro, the city of Berane is important in the field of aluminum. There are strong steel and coal deposits in the city center, where tourism has developed in a significant way. There are also a majority of textile and tobacco businesses. Due to its geographical location Berane has a warm and temperate climate with significant rainfall year-round.
The weather is a bit sharper in the areas of high altitude and more temperate in the valley. Summers are hot and dry while winters are wet and rainy. The Museum of Polimlje is an architecturally important structure in the city featuring a rich collection of relics. Berane is home to the Vrela Zima u Brdima Cultural Festival, which brings together various events, concerts, and activities every year. The cultural events include daylong artistic activities with intriguing pieces of art on display.
The city offers many local flavors unique to the Montenegro region as well as delicious dishes from Ottoman, Italian, and Balkan cuisine. Seafood is also a big part of the local cuisine. The smoked ham and mushrooms marinated with cheese are quite popular. Buses from Podgorica Airport to Berane take approximately 2 hours.
