The biggest lake of Slovenia, Lake Bohinj spreads an area of 790-decare. Located on the Bohinj Valley of the Julian Alps, Lake Bohinj is a part of both northwestern Upper Carniola Region and Triglav National Park.

There are many opportunities of wonderful hiking- and bike tours in Lake Bohinj, which is preferred by the tourists for nature tourism. You should walk for a while to reach the marvellous view of Savica Waterfalls and also, you must wear durable shoes for this trip. Alternatively, you can ski with a breathtaking view or rest and have a delicious meal in the restaurant in Vogel Ski Resort.

With its postcard-like view, St John Baptist Church is adorned with frescos of the 15th and 16th centuries. These frescos are accepted to be unique and first samples with its special symbols and meanings. You can visit this church by asking for the visiting hours beforehand especially during summer or special periods such as the Easter.

Cheese-lovers might want to visit The Alpine Dairy Farming Museum. You can throw a quick glance at the farming life in the Slovenian Alpines in this farm, where cheese was actively produced till the mid-19th century. In the centre of Bohinjska Bistrica, you can take a look at the gorgeous location of Strud’l and taste modernized versions of the traditional farm-house specialties such as ričet s klobaso (rice with sausage). Alternative, if you wish to taste homemade brandy, you should go to Gostilha Mihovc.

Since the summer is hot whereas the winter is cold in Lake Bohinj, the ideal period to pay a visit here is from May to September. Especially July and August are the best times to swim in the lake.
