Děčín, which is located in the northwestern Bohemia at the confluence of the rivers Elbe and Ploučnice, consists of two separate towns. However, it entered in the process of reconstruction following the war. The German population declined, and the center of the town changed place since the historical buildings were destroyed. Today, the town, which is situated near the central railway connecting Prague and Saxony, is the 19th biggest town of the country in terms of its population. The town also plays an important role in the country in many sectors such as sheet metal, food and textile as well as chemical production.
