Djibouti is a city in the small country of Djibouti located in the Horn of Africa, bordering countries like Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Somalia. Yemen is located on the opposite coast with the Gulf of Aden in between. The port, located in the northwest of the city, has vital qualities for commercial activities in countries such as Ethiopia.
Due to its geographic location the city experiences high temperatures year-round. The best time to visit Djibouti is between October and November when the weather cools down a bit, making it more comfortable to explore. There are connecting flights to Djibouti from many African cities. When it comes to eating and drinking the city mainly offers local delicacies with meat dishes being the most popular. But you can also find different flavors from international cuisine, particularly from other regions in Africa. However, pristine restaurants that offer internationals cuisine are not the most affordable. Among places to visit in the city are the architecturally intriguing Presidential Palace, and Hamoudi Mosque for its unique structure. Located almost a 2-hour drive away from the city is the beautiful Lake Assal.
Due to reoccurring droughts, especially from April to September, finding healthy drinking water can be a problem, so be careful against epidemics that can be brought on by the lack of safe water supply. Before traveling to the city you have to get vaccinated. To ensure a healthy and comfortable trip we recommend drinking bottled water instead of tap water.
