About Jaipur
Jaipur is the largest city of the Indian state of Rajasthan. Jaipur was founded in 1727 and is India’s first planned city and the country’s most touristic city. Jaipur’s magnificent architecture, castles, palaces, temples, crafts, elephants, festivals, ethnic costumes, hand-painted and embroidered fabrics, dances, lush gardens and magnificent views make it a captivating city.
The city has a temperate climate, so the best time to visit Jaipur is between the months of October and March. The red sandstone structures and pink buildings have earned the city the nickname “Pink City”. Among the first sights to see are the Amber Fort, built in 1592, located 11 km from the city center, the Jal Mahal, and the City Palace, which was built in the 1700’s, is one of the reasons why the city is adorned in pink, and was home to the Maharaja of Jaipur. Located in the city center the Hawa Mahal Palace, which is an extension of the City Palace, used to function as a type of harem and is remarkable for its splendid architecture. The city is filled with interesting architectural structures worth exploring such as the old city walls Chandpole, Ajmeri gate, and Sanganeri gate, Galtaji, Birla, Govind Dev Ji Temple, and Moti Dungri Temple, Jaigarh Fort, Nahargarh Fort, and the Jantar Mantar observatory. There are also a number of lush gardens outside of the city center.
Souvenirs unique to the city include precious stone jewelry, accessories, camel leather goods, and local carpets. The city also hosts many festivals like the Elephant Festival and Kite Festival. The Jaipur International Airport is located 10 km from the city center in the town of Sanganer. This is the region’s only international airport. The most common way to get to the city center from the airport is by rickshaws. These 3-wheeled passenger carts are also used for urban transportation. If you have a lot luggage consider taking a taxi from the airport to the city center or renting a car.
