Karamürsel, which is a district of Kocaeli and located 34 kilometers of the city center, is situated on Kocaeli - Yalova road. It is only 32 km away from the center of Yalova. The district took its name from Kara Mürsel Pasha, the first chief admiral of the Ottoman Empire. The grave of the Pasha who died in 1329 is also located in this district. Since the most famous wrestlers of Turkey grew up here, Karamürsel has been called as the “Land of Wrestlers”. The district is located on the south-end of the Gulf of İzmit (Kocaeli) and comes into prominence with the beauty of its coastal part.
