About Klagenfurt
Klagenfurt is the capital of the state of Carinthia in Austria. With a population of 99 thousand the city is the 6th largest city in Austria. Klagenfurt is the birthplace of Austrian writer Robert Musil, mostly known for his novel The Man Without Qualities. Every year in July the city hosts the FIVB’s Beach Volleyball Grand Slams. The city is easily accessible on foot but there is also an extensive bus network; bus tickets are purchased directly on the bus. The Klagenfurt Hauptbahnhof is the city’s central station, located south of the city center.
If you want to get to the beach, we recommend renting a bike in the Neuer Platz plaza, which is considered the center of Klagenfurt. There is a bike path along the scenic Lendkanal, a 4-km long waterway. The Klagenfurt Airport is located 2.8 km from the city center and serves flights to Vienna, Hamburg, Berlin, and Cologne.
The city also has a railway line that connects to Italy, Slovenia, and Germany. Every hour there are trains that depart to the neighboring cities of Vienna, Graz, and Villach. Places to visit in the city include the Lindwurm Fountain, Minimundus, Reptilienzoo Happ, Robert Musil House, Europa Park, and Gustav Mahler Komponierhäuschen.
