About Malabo
Malabo is the largest city and the capital of Equatorial Guinea, and it is also a port city. Inhabitants’ sources of income are fishing, trade and tourism. Catedral de Santa Isabel is a big and interesting church in the city. You can see people gathering here at 10.00 on Sundays but you may get warned if you try to take a photo. Another church that should be seen is Iglesia de San Fernando. There is also La Casa Verde, a restored wooden building that is worth visiting.
Malabo has many restaurants of French, Asian, Chinese, Moroccan, European or local cuisines.People mostly consume grilled bananas, chicken and chili pepper. There are hotels for accomodation in the city, though night life is not very lively. There are also shops in Malabo where you can buy fabrics, clothes, woodwork and ceramics indigenious to Africa.
Taking photographs at the airport or government buildings is strictly forbidden in Malabo, and you must be vaccinated against the threat of malaria before coming. Also, it is recommended to choose light clothings due to the hot weather of the city.
Transportation to Malabo City Center from Airport
Malabo International Airport
Malabo International Airport is about 9 kilometers from the city center. Passengers arriving at the airport can travel to the city center in about 15 minutes by taxi and other vehicles. Malabo International Airport offers direct flights to Paris the capital of France, and cities such as Addis Ababa, Madrid, Casablanca and Frankfurt.
Finding a taxi at the airport can be a bit difficult. Non-offical taxis in the region also operate and it is not easy to distinguish between them. At Malabo International Airport rental cars and private services can only be used by passengers who have booked in advance. Please remember that if you plan to use the services of hotels located in the city center for your transfer from the airport, you will need to book the service shuttle vehicles in advance.

Therefore after leaving the airport terminal, you should check if there is a taxi first and if you do not see one, if you walk out to the road you can take a taxi from there. It is possible to travel to the city center with one of the rental cars from Malabo International Airport. From Malabo International Airport to the center in a rental car the journey takes 10-15 minutes. You can use your rental car to travel to many destinations in and around Malabo city center. You can also rent a car from the rental offices in Malabo city center and at the end of your trip leave the car back at the office.
