About Mysuru (mysore)

The capital city of the Wadiyar Dynasty between 1399 and 1947, Mysore is the second biggest city of the Karnataka Region in South India. Because there is a palace in every corner of the city, which hosted the longest empire of the Indian history, it is mentioned as ‘the City of Palaces’, and also ‘the City of Sandalwood’ as it smells sandalwood everywhere. The Mysore Palace is the most fascinating place of the city right in the center. This awesome structure, which is included in the UNESCO list, is illuminated with around a hundred thousand bulbs every Sunday. You can see the traces of the Hindu, Gothic, Islamic and Rajput architecture in this palace, the second artifact referring to India after the Taj Mahal.

The local colorful silk sarees, the interesting tuk-tuks driven in the streets and Chumundi Hills next to tens of bright buildings are among the specific unforgettable attractions. You can have an overview of the city from Chumundi Hills where there is a temple constructed in the 11th century, a 5-meter high sculpture carved from a single rock and 1000 steps to reach all of these. The zoo of the city, which is the address of the brilliant atmospheres such as the Sand Sculpture Museum, the Brindavan Gardens and Karanji Lake, is among the oldest zoos of India.

We should remind you of the fact that Mysore, which we can call the cleanest city of India with the smell of famous sandalwoods and well-kept roads, is the cultural capital of the country. The most colorful time of the city, which has a large route to discover, is the Dussehra Festival organized in October and November every year. You can enjoy and join the Carnatic music and lively Indian dances of the country during the festival that continues 10 days. The most dynamic views are awaiting you in the Devaraja Market in the city of happy people and smiling faces. This market more than 100 years old will be a different experience for you, where you will take the most Indian and colorful pictures and smell the most varied spices.  As the base of those who want to learn yoga and Ayurveda by coming from every corner of the world, the city is differently beautiful in each season, but the period between October and March is the most beautiful of all.

The closest airport to this fabulous city in the south of India is the Bangalore International Airport at a distance of approximately 139 kilometers. You can reach the city center from the airport with the pre-reserved buses or rented cars.
