Nyiregyhazai is the seventh largest city in the northeast of Hungary. The city is the county capital of the Szabolcs-Szatmar-Bereg region and occupies the northern part of the Great Hungarian Plain and the region is full of fruit trees, on the Tisza River.
In the past the Nyiregyhazia area was a wilderness of swamps and dunes and from which the land gradually recovered from and has today become a city of sightseeing with the history of the city starting in the mid 18th century. While on the sandy soil dunes sugar beets, potatoes and tobacco are grown and converted into agricultural land, animal farming is gaining importance. The city, which is the agricultural center of the region, is also known for its timber processing.
In addition to its fertile agriculture, the city has a very dynamic appearance with its parks, squares and buildings that keep the old atmosphere alive. Nyiregyhazai is the most powerful city in Eastern Hungary in terms of culture, education and economy. Its most touristic place is the Zoo. The zoo is spread over an area of 24 hectares. Inside the zoo you will see rare species such as the white tiger and the addax antelope. There are more than 500 animal species from every continent around the World.
The Sosto Forest which is considered as the lungs of the city and has been cared for well, to not be polluted. It is suitable for nature sports as well as therapeutic water treatments in the thermal pools. The Forest is home to the Acquarius Spa, which attracts many visitors to the forest with its both healthy and fun living facilities. The open-air village museum in the Sostogyogyfurdo region, has been open to visitors since 1979 for whom want to learn about the architectural development of the region. Easter entertainments, St. Stephen Harvest Festival, Whitsun Children's Day, Sosto Beer Festival, kitchens and handicraft workshops always keep the city's tempo alive. In February, the traditional Hungarian dances are exhibited, and in August the International Cantemus Festival which is popular in the country, and the city is full during these months. During the festival, films are shown in the city's squares and free concerts are shown. Nyiregyhazai is a city intertwined with art and joy and is located just 30 kilometers from the Tokaj region which is the base of the famous Hungarian wines, and you can join in tasting tours.
The largest international airport to the city is Debrecen Airport which is 53 kilometers away. You can travel to the city center from the airport by buses, taxis or by rental cars.
