About Rivera
Rivera is a green city with a very organized urban stucture, on the Brazilian border in the north east of Uruguay. It is also the capital of the Rivera Region where it is connected to. Rivera is a shopping city. You can find both local products at very reasonable prices here and the duty free shops scattered throughout the city.
The average temperature is 30 degrees Celsius in the summer season, which runs from November to April. Sometimes these values can go up to 40 degrees Celsius. In winter the average is 16-17 degrees Celsius. Rivera is a city that receives a little rainfall all year round and the weather is always very humid.
Transportation in the city is provided by buses. It is also possible to find a taxi. There are also bus lines and railways connecting the city to the surrounding towns. Rivera International Airport serves the city with regards to air transportation. However, Porto Alegre Airport in Brazil is very close to the city and it is possible to go there by bus or plane in a short time.
Paseo de los Poetas offers a wonderful view of the city when you climb the stairs. Bretena Park is a natural recreation, hiking and picnic area. Four distinct Roman Catholic churches in the city are worth seeing as architectural symbols of the city. Rivera offers local Uruguayan dishes as well as beautiful examples of Brazilian food.
