About Rodrigues Island
Located in the Mauritius on the continent of Africa, Rodrigues is an autonomous administrative territory. Being an island itself, Rodrigues has also small islets connected to it. Located in the Indian Ocean, Rodrigues is the second largest island of the country. The island, which has a population around 40.000 according to the datas in 2011, has the characteristics of a volcanic island. There is a lagoon surrounding Rodrigues, which is a volcanic island rising on the edge of the Mascarene Plateau.
On this island, which is isolated from the other regions, there is a micro-climate with two seasons. This region is dominated by humid tropical maritime climate and there is wind throughout the year. Mean yearly temperature in summer is 26 degrees, and in winter, it is 22 degrees. While majority of the inhabitants in the city is Catholic, there are also people from other religions living in the region, such as Jehova’s Witnesses, Hindus, Muslims and Buddhists. Most of the population in the island is African or French, however, it is possible to see people from other European countries.
