Shenzhen International Airport, which is one of the three airports serving the southern China’s Region of Pearl River that was urbanized in the last quarter of the century, was opened for flights in the city of Shenzhen in 1991. While a second runway was constructed in the airport in 2011, a new terminal building was put in service in 2013. Shenzhen International Airport, which has flights to more than 100 cities around the world and is among the first five busiest airports of China, hosts its passengers with three terminal buildings. Every year, an average of 42 million passengers use Shenzhen International Airport, and the annual average of cargo exceeds one million ton.

Even though Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport is not close to Shenzhen city center, you can easily access the city center with alternative means of transportation. You can always find a taxi at the airport. If you need a vehicle to comfort you during your entire visit, you can also rent a car at the airport. Airport shuttles are also available. If you prefer public transportation means and to keep your transportation expenses at minimum, you can take metro or bus.

Taxi

You can reach city center by taking a taxi from the airport in half an hour on average. Do not forget that there are two types of taxis in the city, red and green; and that green taxis serve to rural areas or distanced locations while the red ones serve within the city. Thus, in order to go to the city center you need to take a red taxi. It costs around 100 yen to go to the city centre by taxi.

Car Rental

Zhizun and China Auto car rental companies serve at the airport. Take the southeast direction on G4 highway with your rental car, and you will be in the city center in about half an hour. You can also rent a car with a driver if your budget is suitable for it.

Metro

It is possible to reach the city center in like 10 minutes with the metro that is operating from 06:30 till 23:30. The ticket costs 2 yen.

Shuttle

There are shuttle buses departing from the airport and going to the city center directly. Shuttles start operating at 07:30 and continue serving till the last flight. The journey lasts around 30-35 minutes under normal conditions.

Bus

You can reach city center or other spots in the city with the public buses operating from the early hours of the day till late hours. Most of the lines are express and thus going to the destination directly. Ground Transportation Center (GTC), located in the luggage delivery point at terminal C, might help you to choose the correct bus for you.

The distance between Shenzhen city center and Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport is not short; however there are enough alternatives for transportation. You can reach the airport comfortably by taking a bus or the metro from Shenzhen city center. You can take a taxi or rent a car if you need a more comfortable transportation option.

Taxi

It is always possible to find a taxi in the city center. All the taxis have a taximeter device and it costs around 100 yen to go to the airport. You should keep in mind that the taxis in Shenzhen have two different colors. You need to take the red taxis that are serving within the city center, and not the green ones serving for long distances and rural areas. Under normal traffic conditions, you should reach Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport from Shenzhen city center in about half an hour.

Car Rental

There are a couple different car rental companies in the city. With the car you rent, you can reach Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport in about 30 minutes by driving in the northwest direction on the G4 highway. There is a special slot in the airport where you can deliver your rental car. If your budget is available for this, it might be useful to rent the car with a driver.

Metro

You can reach Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport in a very short time by taking the metro line 1 from the city center. Metro starts operating at 06:30, and continues till 23:30 with intervals of five minutes. The ticket costs only 2 yen.

Shuttle

Airport shuttles operate between 07:30 and the last flight from the airport. The shuttle departing from the city center goes directly to Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport. The journey lasts about half an hour under normal traffic conditions.

Bus

Buses departing from Shenzhen city center and many points in the city are going till Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport. Most of these bus lines are express lines. Tickets are very affordable: only 2 yen.

Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport, located 32 kilometers northwest of Shenzhen city center, is one of the airports with most interesting architecture. The airport, with a unique and modern design, is one of the largest airports in China. You can transfer to Hong Kong without any formalities from Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport thanks to a special agreement between it and Hong Kong International Airport.
