About Smithers
Located in the Canadian province of British Columbia, Smithers is located in the northwestern part of the region. Smithers, a typical Canadian small town, with low-rise homes and wide streets, is noted for its wooden-decked houses and spacious forests that span nearly the entire area. Temperatures in the city, which reflects the region's cold climate conditions very well, are generally low year-round. It varies between -6C and -8C in the winter and 15-21C in the summer.
Smithers is also known as a soccer town, where winter sports are among the major activities. Other than these, mountain biking and rock climbing are among the sports that can be done here. Long walks can be made, especially in the summer months on the wide plain of the city and in the seemingly endless lush green forests. Swimming in the lake near Smithers during the summer is also an alternative. You can also familiarize yourself with the places that were filmed in the movie in Eight Below. You can reach the town via the small local airport, that offers connecting flights to major cities like Toronto and Vancouver. Although not very rich in eating and drinking and sightseeing options, it is still an enjoyable and off-the-beaten path destination.
