About Tambov
Tambov city is the administrative center of Tambov Oblast of the Russian Federation and it lies along the upper Tsna River. The city was founded as a fortress in 1636 to protect Moscow from the Nogai and Crimean Tatars, became province center in 1779, and with gradual developments extends to this day. According to 2010 data, Tambov’s population is approximately 280 thousand people, and is located 480 kilometers southeast of Moscow.
Tambov means “abyss in the Moksha language. The main industries of the city are machinery, chemical, and food. Tambov has a humid continental climate where the average temperature is -8 °C in the coldest month of February and about 20 °C in the warmest month of July. More than half of the precipitation falls in the warm season of summer.

You can travel to Tambov city center from Tambov Donskoye Airport by getting on a taxi within 20 minutes under normal traffic conditions. If you prefer renting a car, you must drive in the southwest direction on the highway A-143. Nine of the hotels in the city offer paid airport shuttle services on condition that a reservation is made in advance. There are no means of public transportation that visitors can use for the transportation from the airport to the city center. You can transfer to many different points of the country from the railway station which is located very close to the city center.
