Uçhisar, one of the villages of Nevşehir, is also known as Cappadocia's Roof, Cappadocia's Top, Cappadocia's Peak among the local people. While agriculture is the main source of livelihood of the village, tourism income is increasing every year.

Uçhisar is the highest point in the Cappadocia region. For this reason, it is very enjoyable to observe the scenery of Uçhisar from Cappadocia Valley as well as to observe the view of Cappadocia full of “fair chimneys” from Uçhisar.

Uçhisar Castle is the most important feature in the city with its history and interesting architecture. During the period when Christianity began to spread in the region but was forbidden by the rulers, this castle was used as a refuge and various hidden rooms, tunnels and roads were carved in the castle. In the upper part of the castle there are three separate graves. Karakale and Güvercinlik Valley are also among the most beautiful places to be seen in the region. Another must-see in the region is the Göreme National Park, starting right behind Uçhisar, which is located on the UNESCO Heritage List.

Viticulture is very common in the area which has a tradition of local wine-making. The visitors who like alcoholic drinks must try these home-made wines while in the region. There are many companies that organize hot air balloon tours around Uçhisar. It is a nice activity to join one of these or to watch the scenery of the air balloons departing in the earliest hours of the day.

The effects of terrestrial climate are observed in Uçhisar. Spring months are considered the ideal time to visit the region. On the other hand, the winter tourism deals in the region that are developed by the accommodation centers as an alternative to nature and culture tourism offering fireplaces, wine and snow scenes might also be preferred. Keep in mind that the visitors are not suggested going to the region in the hot and dry summer months, especially during July and August.
