Yiwu, which is situated in the east of Zhejiang Province of China, is the capital of the province and is a trade and tourism city, which is categorized as a small county according to the national standards. However, even though Yiwu is a small city, it is a well-known city in the world. The city is the largest trade center in China and the world and is also known as 'International Trade City'. Yiwu was founded in 222 B.C. during the Qin Dynasty. The city was named as 'Yiwu' in 624 A.D. and it has begun to grow in commercial terms since the 1700s. Yiwu became the largest center of the daily goods market in the world thanks to reform and overseas expansion activities in 1982. The indispensable products of daily life such as toys, textile, handicrafts, jewelry, bags, hardware, cosmetics, cleaning, electronics, household appliances, housewares and so on are produced in the factories located in this city and then sold at very affordable prices at Yiwu Trade Center.

60% of Christmas products, which are sold in the global market, are produced and put up for sale in Yiwu. About 600 factories in the city, which is also known as the 'Christmas Village' of China, only produce Christmas ornaments. The Yiwu market was declared by the United Nations as the "world's largest everyday commodity market" in 2005. The total market area of the city covers 2 million 500 thousand square meters. Fituan and Huangyuan are the most famous places in the market, which has been divided into five regions. Although Yiwu seems to be only a large world market and economy city, it has also made a great progress as a tourist destination as well.

Xiuhu Lake, Songpu Hill, Yiwu Museum, Yiwu Paradise, Chouzhou and Jiangbin parks, Ocean World and Binwang Bridge are the main tourist attractions in the city. A hot and temperate climate is effective in Yiwu and the city receives a considerable amount of rainfall throughout the year. Yiwu Airport is located 5.5 kilometers northwest of the city.
