About Manizales
It is a city located in the heart of Colombia known as the "Coffee Triangle". The city which is located in a mountainous area with a spectacular view is especially famous for its coffee fields. It is also known as a university city. With its night life and over 30 thousand university students, it is a lively and entertaining city with theater, ballet and music performances continuing throughout the year. Jazz Festival and Theater Festival organized every year are also important activities of the region. Manizales Cathedral, one of the longest cathedrals in Latin America, El Recinto de Pensamientos and Los Yorumos Ecological Parks where you can see orchid and butterfly gardens, Nevado del Ruiz Park, Coffee Theme Park and Manizales Gold Museum are the main places to visit in the city. In addition, you can visit Venecia Coffee Field where you can learn about coffee growing or join one-day trips to Salento which is a small town close to the city. You can also visit the museums belonging to the universities in the city.
Manizales is also famous for its thermal waters. You can have a mineral bath in Tierra Viva which is a thermal water made from natural stones. You can also visit Ruiz and Otun thermal facilities. La Nubia Airport located in Manizales provides service to domestic flights but due to the weather conditions in the city, it cannot provide service all day. For this reason, flights can sometimes be cancelled.
Because of the abovementioned restrictive conditions of this airport, a new airport is still being constructed in an area farther away from the city. La Nubia Airport can be reached with a 15-minute taxi ride from the city center. You can easily flag down a taxi for going to the city center from the airport. They are also very cheap.
